The Right Time to Replace

It's vital to monitor your tires regularly and be proactive about replacing them when necessary to ensure safe driving conditions. More than just low tread there are many other factors that can effect the handling and safety of your travels. There are 4 major factors to consider before you take your next drive.

Tire inspection test

The Penny Test

The U.S. Department of Transportation recommends replacing tires when they reach 2/32”. Many states even legally require tires to be replaced at this depth.

The penny test is help you to check whether you’ve hit the 2/32” threshold. Here’s how it works:

  • Place a penny between the tread ribs on your tire.

  • Turn the penny so that Lincoln’s head points down into the tread.

  • Check if the top of his head disappears between the ribs. If it does, your tread is still above 2/32”. If you see his entire head, it may be time to replace because your tread is no longer deep enough.

When performing the penny tire test, remember not only to check all tires, but  check different places around each tire. Even if parts of your tread are deeper than 2/32”, you should still replace the tire when any areas fail the penny test.

tire plug

Plug

A tire plug is a small, flexible piece of material, typically made of rubber or a similar durable substance, designed to repair punctures in your tire. When your tire picks up a nail, screw, or other sharp object, it can cause a slow leak or even a flat tire. A tire plug works by filling the puncture hole and sealing it from the inside, preventing air from escaping and allowing you to continue driving safely. This quick and effective solution is ideal for minor punctures and can be performed swiftly by our expert technicians, getting you back on the road with minimal hassle.

tire patch

Patch

A tire patch is a specialized repair technique used to mend punctures or minor damage in your tire's tread area. This process involves cleaning and preparing the damaged area before applying a durable patch material. This patch effectively seals the puncture, preventing air from escaping and maintaining proper tire pressure. Tire patches are a cost-effective and efficient solution for keeping your tires safe and roadworthy, extending their lifespan and ensuring your continued driving enjoyment.

Consider:

Tread Wear and Traction

Over time, the tread on tires wears down due to friction with the road surface. As the tread depth decreases, the tire's ability to grip the road diminishes, leading to reduced traction. Tires with insufficient tread may result in poor handling, longer stopping distances, and an increased risk of hydroplaning in wet conditions. Regularly changing tires ensures that you maintain optimal tread depth for better traction and overall road safety.

Handling and Performance

Tires play a crucial role in a vehicle's handling and performance. As they wear out, the handling characteristics of the car can be negatively affected. Worn tires may lead to decreased responsiveness, increased body roll, and reduced stability, especially during cornering and sudden maneuvers. Changing tires at the recommended intervals helps maintain the car's intended performance and ensures a safer driving experience.

Fuel Efficiency

Well-maintained tires contribute to better fuel efficiency. Worn-out tires increase rolling resistance, requiring the engine to work harder to move the vehicle. This extra effort results in higher fuel consumption. By regularly changing tires, you help to minimize rolling resistance, improve fuel efficiency, and ultimately reduce your overall operating costs.

Safety in Various Conditions

Tires are designed to perform optimally in specific weather and road conditions. As they age, their ability to handle different conditions, such as rain, snow, or icy roads, may diminish. Regularly changing tires allows you to adapt to seasonal variations and maintain the safety features built into the tire design. For example, using winter tires in colder months can significantly enhance traction and control on snow and ice, while switching to all-season or summer tires in warmer weather ensures optimal performance.

Tires getting bare?

Cynthia T.

“Needed new tires on my car and thought I needed brakes, called on a Saturday he immediately got back to me with some tire choices and prices, took my car Sunday and dropped it off, he called me Monday to let me know I did not need brakes and called me early Tuesday to come pick my car up! Great service and very reasonably priced!."
